I started Hedemann Photography to turn my passion for photography into my business, by providing high quality photography in settings that reflect the lives of my clients. My interest in graphic design has come from my photography, as clients have asked for their images incorporated into posters, brochures, publicity cards and flyers.
My photographic specialties include ice skating, portraits, nature and travel. With figure skating I aim to capture the joy, beauty in motion and skill of even the beginner skater. In family and portrait photographs I try to reveal character of the person, and the relationships of people to each other and to the objects they care about, such as musicians to their instruments. My travel and nature photography is more of a personal statement. I enjoy the adventure and try to capture the character of a place and time.
I began taking photos while at the University of Texas. I moved to New York City where I worked in and photographed the peace movement. My images have been published in peace movement publications and books, as well as People magazine and the Soho Weekly News. My photographs of the poet and short story writer Grace Paley are featured in a documentary on her life. My photographic portrait of Rosa Parks was used in a video history of nonviolence, and my portrait of longtime Detroit City Council President Maryann Mahaffey hangs in the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame.
Now my work focuses on individual, family and musician portraits, and figure skaters on ice. I work with the Detroit Skating Club in Bloomfield Hills, the Oakland Youth Orchestra and the University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy Music Program, as well as many individual clients.
